The opera is about Lewis, a gay man with AIDS who meets up in his dreams with Madame DuBarry, a courtesan in the Eighteenth Century court of Louis XV. Lewis' dreams reflect his desire to come to grips with his disease and with his dysfunctional family and his former lover, who also make an appearance in the opera. Sung in English, the music is tonal and accessible.
